Merlot

The famous grape from the Bordeaux region

Médoc, Saint-Émilion, Pomerol and Graves, all include an amount of Merlot. Associated with the Cabernet-Sauvignon, this variety gives deeply coloured wines, a good amount of alcohol, a round taste and flexibility. It is spread to other regions in France, especially in the Midi. In Switzerland, it is the basis of a quality wine called Merlot del Ticino, as it is recommended in Italy in Toscana, in the Trentino, the Friuli and the Venezia. A Merlot Blanc exists, though without any genetic link to the Merlot Noir.
