Macabeu

or Maccabéo

White grape of Spanish origin

Widely cultivated in Spain, the Maccabéo (in spanish ) produces powerful and aromatic white wines in the regions of the Rioja and the Penedès. It is one of the three grapes of which the Cava, the sparkling Catalan wine, is made. In France, the maccabeu is found in the Roussillion. It is used to make dry white wines (AOC Côtes du Roussillion), but is also used in the making of the natural sweet wines of that region.
